Oristano

The landlady in Alghero thought there wasn't much of interest in Oristano, but I still wanted a look and it was on the way back south. Recall that I had a good lunch in a trattoria in a southern suburb on the way north. It has some well-preserved buildings but not much scenic beauty.
These would be the buildings surrounding the Duomo. The late afternoon light casts some unphotogenic shadows unfortunately.

Pretty piece of pottery, which seems to be a local artisan activity.
The usual narrow pedestrian streets and eateries.
The Torre di San Cristoforo di Mariano II near the centre of the city. It was a conventional Italian city, perhaps neater than most. I took advantage to stock up a bit with snacks and drinks at the supermarkets.
Eleonora of Arborea is claimed by the Sardinians as their heroine. She was a law reformer and one of the last rulers of a Sardinian kingdom (queendom?) which held most of Sardinia before it was conquered by the Aragonese and eventually transferred to Catalan rule. Her statue stands in the eponymous piazza.
I found sustenance in a pizza al taglio joint on a side street. It was quite good.
